On our way soon!

Hello students, friends, family members, and loved ones!

A few people suggested that the group travelling to Nicaragua this summer should post to a blog.  SeƱora T. thought it would be helpful so that we could get information back to the people State-side without tying up the phone or computers for an extended period of time.  I'm going to invite all the people going on the trip to be editors so that any one of us can post pictures, news, reflections or anything we feel like sharing.

Now that school's out, I'm starting to get very excited for this trip - I've been reading articles about Latin America in National Geographic, going over my immunization records, and even running through the self check-out line in Spanish whenever I can.  I'm sure many of the students are also getting excited - and maybe even a little nervous.  I know that we'll have a great time and that this trip will be a tremendous, life-changing learning experience for all of us, so it's ok to be excited.  I think, though, that we need to try no to worry about things.  The people at IS have organized this kind of trip many times, and they have things under control.

Most of our time will be spent in the capital city of Managua, which is closer to the Pacific side of the country.  We will also be traveling to Granada, which is on the large Lago de Nicaragua.  My understanding is that Granada is a very scenic area.  While this will only be a short stay, it will be a nice retreat from the garbage dump outside Managua.

Looking forward to seeing you all very soon,

-Mr. K.
